A2295 – Passed, 60-9. Originally, this would have added celebrants certified by the Celebrant Foundation and Institute to the list of individuals who are authorized to solemnize marriages in New Jersey. The Institute is a non-profit educational organization with headquarters in Montclair.  

But as amended, the language about the Celebrant Foundation is eliminated and now provides that any civil celebrant who is trained and certified to solemnize marriages or civil unions from an established non-denominational or educational non-profit organization dedicated to training such individuals would be authorized to solemnize marriages or civil unions in New Jersey.

S2771/A3895 – Passed 50-19-2. This bill would require the Department of Community Affairs to create a maintenance code to oversee the private inspection on a five-year basis of the exterior building walls of certain buildings, whether residential or commercial, that are six or more stories in height. 

A3434  –  Passed 45-27. This bill protects consumers from contracts that contain unconscionable practices concerning arbitration by outlining the various factors of unconscionability for a court reviewing a contract containing an arbitration agreement.

A3920 – Passed 54-13. This bill requires health care facilities to annually offer influenza vaccination to their health care workers.
