TRENTON – Several measures were approved without discussion in Senate chambers today. Among the approved measures was a bill to inject $1 million into Sayreville flood relief, sponsored by Assemblyman John Wisniewski, (D-19), Sayreville.
The bill, S2445, redirects $1 million in 2003 bond monies to the town, and was approved today, 23-15.
Another bill, A3158, establishes the N.J. Task Force on Coordination Among Nonprofit Social Service Organizations. Sponsored by state Sens. Loretta Weinberg, (D-37), Teaneck, and Barbara Buono, (D-18), Metuchen, the bill was approved, 30-9.
A third bill, sponsored by state Sens. Bob Smith, (D-17), Piscataway, and Linda Greenstein, (D-14), Plainsboro, S3032, the Electric Discount and Energy Competition Act, was approved in the upper chamber today, 21-17, with mostly Republican opposition.
Among other provisions, the bill provides for a continuation of renewable energy incentives by the Board of Public Utilities; provides all classes of ratepayers with access to solar renewable energy certificates (SRECs); and increases the state’s renewable energy portfolio standard to require 30 percent of the state’s electricity to be from Class I of Class II renewable energy sources by 2020.
