While wandering around the Fulton Mall today, The Observer stumbled upon our first DOT hiaku in the wild, at the corner of Jay and Fulton streets, in front of the new Shake Shack—there was quite a line as the lunch crowd arrived, so things seem to be going well.

The signs are part of a new public education campaign launched late last year to encourage pedestrians, cyclists and drivers to be more conscientious. This one was targeted at the latter two, appropriately so, as a bike lane that is a major approach to the Brooklyn Bridge runs along Jay Street. In case you can’t make it out, the sign reads, “Car stops near bike lane/Cyclist entering raffle/Unwatned door prize.”
