In his veto message Christie stressed the importance of keeping syringes out of the hands of minors.  Christie’s veto suggests adding language to the bill requiring a pharmacy to obtain identification from proespective purchasers, much as pharmacies do for the sale of cold medecine containing pseudoephedrine, ephedrine, and phenylpropanolamine.

In addition, the veto suggests requiring the state health department distribute information to pharmacies concerning safe disposal of syringes and substance abuse treatment.  Christie also suggested a technical change regarding the lack of criminal penalty.

Bill sponsor Sen. Joe Vitale said the suggestions for the governor are practical and workable.
