TRENTON – While one group of supporters is calling for its passage, S2664, the “Market Competition and Consumer Choice Act,” is not expected to be voted on in the final legislative sessions today.
Sources in Trenton said Gov. Chris Christie’s administration peeled away from supporters of the bill over the weekend, and another source said state Sen. President Steve Sweeney, (D-3), West Deptford, is unwilling to move it forward today.
The bill’s sponsor, state Sen. Ray Lesniak, (D-20), Elizabeth, told State Street Wire today that he would move the bill if he was able to get floor amendments to satisfy the AARP, which stands in opposition due to deregulation of senior protections.
Lesniak was not confident that the bill could be amended and voted on in an emergency floor vote, and the two sources agreed that a vote is extremely unlikely.
