You’re looking for a theatrical evening, but after catching the big screen version on Christmas day, you’d rather slit your wrists (lengthwise) than see a live performance of War Horse. The Public Theater’s Under the Radar festival is in full swing, and you’ve been hearing good things, particularly about Goodbar. The show, sort of concept album, is a live musical performance that chronicles the gruesome fate of a schoolteacher murdered while out on the singles scene in the 1970s. Sound dark? It is. The rock opera is something of a trippy, tremulous venture down the unforgiving avenue of sexual violence, a subversive tale sung to a rock ’n’ roll score. Think Law & Order SVU meets Glee meets Lady Gaga. Hey, it beats War Horse.
