We’re sick and tired of hearing about how great 2012 is going to be. We probably won’t lose 10 pounds; we won’t go to the gym four days a week; and we won’t stop drunk texting. It’s just not going to happen. Fortunately, a literary-inclined crew seems to feel similarly and tonight they’ll share tales from their darkest hours to ring in the new year. Don’t necessarily expect to hear any motivational words of wisdom, but come ready and willing to hear Alan Kaufman, Mary Karr and Elizabeth Wurtzel pour out their erudite souls. Alternately self-effacing and aggrandizing, the event will surely be indulgent, but somehow we think it will make us feel better about ourselves. Sort of like watching Jersey Shore.
New Year, New You: Addiction and Recovery Memoir With Alan Kaufman, Mary Karr and Elizabeth Wurtzel, Housing Works Bookstore Café, 126 Crosby Street, 7:00 p.m.
