BCRO pays tribute to party stalwart: the late Maryann Lamber

Bergen County this week mourned the loss of Maryann Lamber, vice chairwoman of the Bergen County Republican Organization, who died Wednesday after a long illness.

Maryann was for so many years an important contributor to the operations of the BCRO and a dynamic supporter of many Republican officeholders,” said Bob Yudin, chairman of the BCRO. “As the former Executive Director of the BCRO, she was the familiar voice on the other end of the phone and the smiling face you met at the door. Her support of Republican candidates and issues was unwavering and her work ethic was admirable She donated countless hours to make BCRO events successful and she will be missed.”

Mrs. Lamber worked at the Bergen County Utilities Authority, serving as Secretary to the Commissioners, and Clerk to the Board of Commissioners.

From 1984 through 1995, she served as Administrator for the Bergen County Republican Organization (BCRO), managing day-to-day functions and fundraising for County Chairmen John Inganamort, John Schepisi and Berek Don.  From 1982 to 1984, Mrs. Lamber served as Legislative Aide to State Senator John Paolella, managing the office and handling extensive constituent work.  During that time, she also served as a part-time Legislative Aide to then-Assemblyman William “Pat” Schuber.  From 1980 to 1982, she served as Legislative Aide to Assembly members John Paolella and Louis Kosco, managing much of their constituent work.

She was a member of the Hackensack Republican County Committee since 1978.  She was a past officer of the Bergen County Republican Committee, a former District 37 Chair, and also held roles in the Bergen County Women’s Republican Club, most recently serving as Corresponding Secretary.  Mrs. Lamber was first elected Vice Chair of the BCRO in 2002, an office she held until her death. She was acting Chair upon the death of former Chairman Jim Sheehan in 2003, presiding over BCRO business until the election of a new Chairman. In 2003, she was honored at the 11th Annual Jim Sheehan St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast for her many, many years of loyal, “behind the scenes” service to the Republican Party.  She was honored in 2011 by the Bergen County Women’s Republican Club as its Woman of the Year.

Civically, Mrs. Lamber served as president of the Hackensack PTA for 14 years, and vice president for 12 years.  She was a past member of the Hackensack Board of Education and a member of the Hackensack Athletic Alumni Association (HAAA). In 1994, she was the recipient of the HAAA “Woman of the Year” award serving as the HAAA past president for two years, and as vice president for four years.

She is survived by her husband Lewis, son Keith, son and daughter-in-law Justin and Anna, grand-daughter Savannah, father Patsy Paolella, sister Patricia Paolella, and many cousins.
