TRENTON – Bettylou DeCroce, whose husband Alex died on the last day of the previous legislative session, took the oath of office this afternoon as the Assembly’s newest member.

Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald said that everyone recognized that the pain is still here, and wished her the best of luck continuing the work her husband left behind.

Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick said this is a special day, commended her and welcomed her to the chamber.

DeCroce thanked all for the love and support during this time.  “The outpouring of love for Alex overwhelmed me,’’ she said.

She said the state has made difficult decisions to reform pensions and cap property taxes, and said she is willing and able to finish the job that has been started under Gov. Christie.

She received several standing ovations.
