Eagleton: 53% of voters want marriage equality ballot question

Fifty-three percent of voters support Gov. Chris Christie’s call for a referndum vote on same-sex marriage while 40 percent support Senate President Steve Sweeney’s (D-3) position that gay marriage is a civil right that should not be decided upon by voters, according to this morning’s Rutgers-Eagleton Poll.

Even among those who support gay marriage, a majority wants a referendum. Fifty-four percent favor legalizing same-sex marriage, according to Rutgers-Eagleton.
