Former Bergen sheriff endorses Passaic freeholder in 5th Dist. race

PALISADES PARK – A day after former N.Y. Giants superstar Harry Carson announced that he would not be a candidate for Congress in the 5th District, former Bergen County Sheriff Leo McGuire reached across the river and endorsed Passaic County Freeholder Terry Duffy.

“Today I am proud to endorse Passaic County Freeholder Terry Duffy as the best Democrat to bring real representation to the families of the 5th Congressional District,” said McGuire, giving Duffy a Bergen voice in his bid to be the Democratic nominee against incumbent U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett, (R-5).

“I have known Terry as a devoted father, successful businessman, and strong representative of the people,” McGuire said of the tavern owner. “As a small business owner, Terry knows the problems facing so many middle-class Americans and will bring more effective representation in Congress.”

A loser for re-election in 2010, McGuire said he looks forward to campaigning with Duffy throughout Bergen County and the entire 5th District.
