Judiciary slated to interview Higher Education secretary

TRENTON – Although Acting Education Commissioner Christopher Cerf’s appearance Thursday before the Senate Judiciary has once again been put off, another Cabinet level official is now scheduled to appear before the panel.

Rochelle Hendricks is scheduled to be interviewed for the post of Secretary of Higher Education.

Gov. Chris Christie nominated her to the post in May. His Higher Education Task Force had recommended the post be created.

Also on the Judiciary schedule to be interviewed are three Superior Court judgeship nominees: J. Christopher Gibson of Cape May, Robert Malestein of Hopewell Township in Cumberland County, and James R. Swift of Millville in Cumberland County.

Ongoing issues surrounding Cerf’s residency and senatorial courtesy are keeping him from appearing before the committee.
