Keep-to-the-right motorist bill advances

TRENTON – The Senate Transportation Committee released several bills today.

S530: This increases fines on motorists for failing to keep to the right unless overtaking another vehicle. The vote was 3-1.

S1366: This designates Route 31 as the Tri-County Purple Heart Memorial Highway. The vote was unanimous.

SJR37: This designates the Route 46 bridge in Dover as the Officer Thomas E. DeShazo Memorial Bridge.

On May 22, 1930, DeShazo was providing a motorcycle escort to a member of Charles Lindbergh’s family when his vehicle overturned. DeShazo, who died two days later, was the first Dover officer to die in the line of duty.
