Hackensack Downtown: GOP committee members face freeholder fight

HACKENSACK – A figure alighted on the Main Street sidewalk outside the downtown headquarters of the Bergen County Republican Organization (BCRO).

It was Freeholder Rob Hermansen.

“It’s going to be a very interesting night, and I’m just going to leave it at that,” said the incumbent, who faces a three-way contest with Ridgewood attorney John Ginty and Rivers Edge Mayor Margaret Watkins for two seats on the freeholder board.

Hermansen’s running mate three years ago, Freeholder John Driscroll, won’t run for re-election this year.

As of 8:15, none of the contestants delivered speeches to the crowd of Republican committee members.

In Paramus, Bergen Democrats spoke through belly laughs at the prospect of a GOP bloodbath here tonight, one which ostensibly pitted Hermansen against BCRO Chairman Bob Yudin.

The chairman and Hermansen have had a history of rancorous phone calls and policy differences.
