Roque backs Menendez for U.S. Senate

WEST NEW YORK – Mayor Felix Roque today endorsed U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ), reversing his earlier backing of state Sen. Joe Kyrillos (R-13).

“I’m a military man,” said the mayor. “My community wants Menendez, I will do what is in the best interest of my community. I am endorsing the great Sen. Menendez.”

A renegade victor last year in local elections, Roque was subdued in the beige-colored interior of the West New York Democratic Committee headquarters. He said he wasn’t feeling well.

Investigators are in the town, have been for at least a week, maybe longer, say sources.

Earlier this week, Roque told PolitickerNJ.com he felt the uptick of a federal investigative presence in West New York derived directly from his earlier stated support of Kyrillos.

Payback.

The senator’s office offered no comment.

Today, Roque made a brief statement to the mostly Spanish press, then went behind closed doors.

Sources told PolitickerNJ.com the feds continue to question political enemies of the mayor’s connected to a disabled political website called recallroque.com. Either the mayor, his son, or allies of the mayor’s are alleged to have hacked the website, sparking the investigation, sources say.
