Essex County sources say state Sen. Nia Gill (D-34) is preparing to run off the line in her home county of Essex with a local ally joining her on the ticket.
Roger Terry, deputy mayor of Gill’s hometown of Montclair, was prepared this afternoon to submit petitions to run for sheriff against Armando Fontoura.
A candidate for Congress in CD 10, Gill does not anticipate receiving the Essex County line from the party organization, sources say. By teaming up with Terry she hopes to field at least a partial slate to oppose an organizational ticket including Newark Council President Donald Payne, Jr. running for his late father’s CD 10 seat.
Payne would be on the line with incumbent Sheriff Fontoura.
