Republican state Sen. Jen Beck will replace Sen. Michael Doherty at today’s Senate Judiciary hearing on Supreme Court nominee Bruce Harris.
Sources tell PolitickerNJ the change was made late in the day yesterday.
Doherty is apparently out of state, however sources inside the Senate said Doherty, among the most conservative members of the legislature, was uncomfortable with being forced to vote on the controversial nominee, who is openly gay and has advocated in favor of same sex marriage.
Harris’ path to the court will likely be stalled today as Democrats have raised concerns about his qualifications and the partisan make up of the court should he be confirmed.
Doherty did not return a call for comment.
