Campaign season is ramping up, and so are the robocalls hitting voters in the open congressional district in northeastern Queens. The latest is on behalf Assemblywoman Grace Meng from former Borough President Claire Shulman.

“This is former Borough President Claire Shulman, please listen why I’m supporting Assemblywoman Grace Meng for Congress,” the call begins. “She will protect and safeguard Social Security and Medicare for which we seniors have worked all of our lives.”

The call — which might be targeting senior voters who fondly recall her terms in office in the 80’s and 90’s especially — goes on to repeat its emphasis on Social Security and Medicare.

“Some in Washington are proposing to cut the budget on the back of the elderly, but protecting Social Security and Medicare is our priority,” she said. “I believe that Grace Meng has the strength and integrity to fight for us and win and that is why I support her for Congress. So please vote on June 26th, it is so important, thank you.”

One of Ms. Meng’s primary rivals, Assemblyman Rory Lancman, has a robocall of his own from former Mayor Ed Koch. Also in the race is Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley.
