Congressional Black Caucus members stump for Payne

Congressional Black Caucus Chair Emanuel Cleaver and fellow Black Caucus member and Democratic Chief Deputy Whip G.K. Butterfield endorsed and rallied for Donald Payne Jr. and his campaign for Congress in the 10th District Saturday.

“I’m here for one reason. We need Donald Payne Jr. in Washington,” said Cleaver. “I could be in my back yard this Saturday, but it’s more important to me to be in this churchyard in Newark.”

“We want him in Washington. We need him in Washington,” Butterfield said, “We need him on our team to stand strong against the right wing Republican agenda.”

“I am so pleased to have the support of Congressman Cleaver and Congressman Butterfield,” Payne said. “Working together with these senior members will help me hit the ground running, so I can start fighting for the interests of the 10th District on day one. There will be no learning curve.”

The rally highlighted a day of support for Payne from the Congressional Black Caucus that also included an endorsement and appearance by New York Congressman Gregory Meeks.
