Highway dedication bills advance from Senate Transportation Committee

TRENTON – Two bills to dedicate portions of state highways were released from the Senate Transportation Committee this morning by unanimous votes.

S1823, sponsored by Sen. Paul Sarlo (D-36), Wood-Ridge, would designate the Route 7 Bridge between Belleville and North Arlington as “Lance Corporal Osbrany Montes de Oca Memorial Bridge.”

Montes de Oca, a North Arlington native and United States Marine, died on Feb. 10 while supporting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

S1503, sponsored by Sen. James Holzapfel (R-10), Toms River, would designate a portion of Route 35 in Ocean County as “Chosin Few Memorial Highway” in honor of the soldiers who fought in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War. The “Chosin Few” is an organization with chapters across the country, including New Jersey, which is comprised of survivors of the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, which took place in November and December of 1950.
