Somehow, between Memorial Day, filing our stories for last week’s paper and doing interviews for stories for this week’s paper, we forgot to write up the gala fundraiser for the Kitchen, which took place last week at Capitale in Chinatown. This was an egregious oversight because it was terrific.
The crowd was young and disturbingly good at dancing. The canapĂ©s were so good that the DJ for the after-party, James Murphy, frequently flagged down stewards so that they could bring tarts of this or that variety over to his turntables. People stole the flowery centerpieces, popping them in their jacket pockets to serve as makeshift pocket squares. One artist reported that he saw a woman’s purse knocked over, with no fewer than five centerpieces tumbling out afterward.
All this is to say that it is a blast and that we regret having not written it up the next day. Please enjoy this slide show for your entertainment and our penance.
