Christie's American paintings, drawings and sculpture sale last night brought in a total of $27,198,600, and was 85 percent sold by value and 77 percent sold by lot.
The top seller was Mary Cassatt’s Sara Holding a Cat, which sold for more than twice its high estimate, at just over $2.5 million. Norman Rockwell’s Dreams of Long Ago was not far behind, selling for more than $2.3 million. Two Georgia O’Keeffe paintings–Deer Horns and Lake George in Woods–were among the top 10 lots.
Elizabeth Sterling, head of Christie’s American department, said the sale “demonstrated the continued strength and confidence in the American marketplace.”
