The endorsement act has turned rancorously muddy in CD 9 in the City of Passaic.
Sources close to U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell griped about a billboard that appeared last week in the downtown business district featuring U.S. Rep. Steve Rothman flanked by Assemblyman Gary Schaer and Julio “Kiko” Luciano, an ally of former Mayor Sammy Rivera.
In 2005, Luciano was involved in a fight in the city and charged with assault. His face as the poster boy image of the Rothman campaign had Pascrell partisans howling.
But the Rothman camp pointed out that former Passaic City Councilman Marcellus Jackson, booted out of City Hall for taking bribes, held a breakfast rally two weeks ago for seniors in hopes of creating voter excitement for Pascrell.
