Republican Candidate Files for Grace Meng’s Seat

Sunny Hahn, an activist in Flushing’s Korean community, seems set to run for Assemblywoman Grace Meng’s seat this year. Ms. Meng, of course, is running in the Democratic primary for an open congressional seat, but she hasn’t ruled out the possibility of running for reelection if she is not successful in those endeavors.

Ms. Hahn previously wanted to run for the seat held by Democratic State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky, but was rebuffed when the Queens GOP officially selected attorney J.D. Kim instead. She subsequently indicated interest in Ms. Meng’s seat, and today she formalized her campaign further by registering a campaign committee for the run.

A number of Democratic candidates are also looking at the race, including newspaper publisher Myungsuk Lee, lotto millionaire Isaac Sasson and comic book store owner John Scandalios.

Because the success or failure of Ms. Meng’s congressional campaign could easily determine if there will be an incumbent in the race, the candidates are undoubtedly watching that race closely.
