TRENTON – The Senate approved legislation that would allow Type II school districts to move elections to November.
The bill, S1328, passed following a unanimous vote in the affirmative.
The bill would permit the South Orange and Maplewood school districts, the only Type II districts in the state, to move the date of the annual school election to the same day as the November General Election.
A similar bill was passed by the Legislature earlier this year, but drew a conditional veto from the governor. Among other things, Gov. Chris Christie suggested a revision so that all current board members’ terms would be extended from April of the year they would have expired to the following January.
