Gov. Chris Christie today continued to support legalized sports betting, saying it happens, so it’s time to “take it from the underground.”

“I am sure I’m going to get sued to try and stop it, but we’ll fight it out in federal court,” Christie told a Piscataway audience during one of his town hall meetings.

The governor accused the NFL and other major professional sports leagues of being complicit in illegal gambling by publishing point spreads for their games.

Christie has said he foresees sports betting coming to Atlantic City as early as this fall and plans to submit regulations to allow it, despite the federal ban.

“If someone wants to stop us, then let them try to stop us,” Christie said during a news conference in Atlantic City just before Memorial Day.”I have every confidence we’re going to be successful.”
