Google (GOOGL) announced the latest advancement in its quest for universal map domination today: Meet Street View Trekker. It’s sort of like those Wifi-snarfing Street View cars, except with Trekker, all that photographic equipment fits in a handy backpack, which means the company can start putting the places you go to the escape the Internet . . . on the Internet.
“You’ve seen our cars, trikes, snowmobiles and trolleys—but wheels only get you so far,” the company wrote today. “There’s a whole wilderness out there that is only accessible by foot.”
Has “Where we’re going, we don’t need roads,” ever sounded so dystopian?
