
The New York Times reports that Nan Goldin has received the MacDowell Colony’s Edwin MacDowell Medal for lifetime achievement in the arts.
According to The Times, Ms. Goldin, best known for her autobiographical photography, will join the ranks of John Updike, Merce Cunningham, Georgia O’Keeffe and Kiki Smith in receiving the award.

In a statement, Luc Sante, the chairman of the selection committee for the award, praised Ms. Goldin for creating a medium “unto itself, halfway between still photography and cinema.”
