The Romney campaign and the Republican National Committee are acting positively shocked about some mildly coarse remarks made by Democrats celebrating the Supreme Court’s ruling on President Barack Obama’s healthcare law. Hours after the ruling yesterday, Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers sent out a fundraising email highlighting a pair of Tweets from Democratic National Committee staffers.
“Right after the Supreme Court’s decision this morning the Democratic National Committee started celebrating – these are direct quotes: ‘it’s constitutional. B****es.’ ‘TAKE THAT MOTHER******S!!’ This is the party that speaks for women? I’m appalled,” Ms. McMorris Rodgers wrote.
This morning, Mitt Romney’s adviser Eric Fehrnstrom took to Twitter to decry the Obama campaign selling t-shirts based on Vice President Joe Biden’s infamous 2010 quote that the law was a “big f***king deal.”
In the wake of the Supreme Court ruling, the Obama campaign unveiled the t-shirts emblazoned with the slogan “Health Reform–Still A BFD.” The official @BarackObama account posted the slogan with a link to the shirts on Twitter. Mr. Fehrnstrom copied that message and added some commentary.
“Still not presidential. Kids, earmuffs,” Mr. Fehrnstrom wrote.
The first tweet referenced by Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers were sent by Patrick Gaspard, a former White House aide who is currently executive director of the DNC. Greg Greene, the DNC’s new media outreach director authored the second tweet. His full message read: “Overheard in the office: ‘TAKE THAT MOTHER******S!!'” with the asterisks included. Mr. Greene’s tweet has since been deleted.
Mr. Biden’s “BFD” comment was caught on a hot mic in March 2010 at the ceremony where President Obama signed the Affordable Healthcare Act into law.
