TRENTON – The Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee released a bill 5-0 that would promote use of zero emission vehicles.
A3028 establishes the Zero Emission Vehicle Commission without abolishing the Low Emission Vehicle Review Commission, which was established but was never organized.
The 13-member commission would study numerous issues connected with zero emission vehicles, including submitting a report to the governor, and studying incentives to increase the use of such vehicles and their attendant infrastructure.
Sponsor Assemblyman Lou Greenwald, (D-6), Voorhees, said the time is right to guide the state in its effort to comply with federal goals to reduce emissions.
Supporters included Environment N.J., the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, the N.J. Sierra Club, N.J. New Car Dealers, Mazda and Daimler, whose representatives lauded the effort for better incentives to promote more use of zero emission vehicles.
They also said the bill would promote manufacturing and sales jobs in the state.

A2951/S872: This bill would authorize incinerator authorities to perform sanitation, public works and environmental services. The vote was unanimous.
At this time, there is only one incinerator authority in operation – the Jersey City Incinerator Authority. Under current law, the activities of incinerator authorities are limited to the operation of a garbage disposal system.
However, the Jersey City Incinerator Authority functions not only as a collector and disposer of residential waste, but has many other responsibilities, including enforcing city ordinances relative to solid waste disposal and recycling.
