In an email to journalist Andrew Sullivan, CNN host Anderson Cooper put an end to longstanding rumors by writing: “The fact is, I’m gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud.” Mr. Cooper’s orientation had of late been the topic of discussion–the TV host had been featured in an Observer cover story on “the glass closet” due to his openness regarding all aspects of his life but his orientation. Writing today of the need to be a visible part of the gay community, Mr. Cooper wrote: “I do think visibility is important, more important than preserving my reporter’s shield of privacy.”
