Christie again downplays VP talk

MANASQUAN – Gov. Chris Christie said – again – he doesn’t expect to be tapped to be presidential hopeful Mitt Romney’s choice as vice president.

“I’d rather stay,” Christie said, referring to New Jersey, adding he hopes to help Romney in any way he can to defeat President Barack Obama in the upcoming presidential election.

Christie was asked by a resident during his beach-side forum here who he thought Romney would pick as a vice presidential candidate. Christie responded by saying he hopes it’s someone who could help the U.S. recover from the serious problems the country faces.

Christie declined to speculate on who Romney will tap as VP, but said he expects the former governor to make a decision sometime in the near future.

The New York Times reported today that Romney will make an announcement soon.
