The Democratic National Committee named another slate of officials who have been picked to give prime-time (or close enough) speeches at their convention in Charlotte next month.
Among the names of interest are Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel, California attorney general Kamala D. Harris and Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley.
Mr. Emanuel was the Obama administration’s first chief-of-staff, and remains a lightning rod for many progressives who consider him to ready to compromise. Ms. Harris has, like New York attorney general Eric Schneiderman, been an occasional thorn in the side of the administration from the left, pushing the White House on gay marriage and on a settlement with banks over the housing crisis. And Mr. O’Malley is a top contender for the nomination in 2016, hoping to eclipse Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the early jockeying. Mr. Cuomo is avoiding the convention almost entirely.
Also announced today on the roster are Colorado governor John Hickenlooper, former Virginia Governor Tim Kaine, Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland.
