Who doesn’t like to celebrate a job promotion? Go out to a fancy dinner, uncork a pricey bottle of champagne, buy some new shoes. Or if you’re Helen Meates, spend $4.3 million on a new condo.
In June, Ms. Meates, the chief operating officer of Morgan Stanley (MS)’s global capital markets became the deputy head of the business. Ms. Meates and Simon Prisk, a corporate lawyer, apparently decided the new position should be marked by a move to a swankier four-bedroom condo at The Aldyn. City records show couple paid just above the $4.25 million ask for the 34th-floor sponsor unit at 60 Riverside Boulevard, listed with the Corcoran Sunshine marketing group. But they came with a good deal of cash in hand after a $2.9 million sale closed on their old condo at 272 West 107th Street, listed with Halstead broker Dean Feldman.
Ebrahim Elahi, the buyer of the couple’s former pad, will also be enjoying some fine views from the 20th-floor, or “postcard views from every room,” as the listing boasts. Just not as fine as Ms. Meates, with her fourteen floor upgrade. Besides the views, if the Occupy hordes ever materialize en force again, it doesn’t hurt to be as high up as possible.
The unit, untainted by the grubby fingers of previous tenants, features Brazilian cherry floors, a windowed eat in kitchen and a teak-wrapped master bath with Zuma soaking tub. And, if the couple cares to hone their competitive edge at home, there is also a large indoor pool, a basketball and squash court, a rock climbing wall and a bowling alley.
