In an interview with ABC News, a Mitt Romney advisor declined to confirm or deny a recent report by the New York Post that said Gov. Chris Christie declined to be tapped as Romney’s running mate over concerns the former Massachusetts governor could lose the election.
Romney advisor Beth Myers reportedly declined to confirm or deny the Post’s recent report that indicated concerns that Romney could lose his bid against President Barack Obama in the upcoming election, coupled with an unwillingness to give up his position as executive of the Garden State, were cited as two reasons Christie declined to be the GOP’s Republican vice presidential pick, according to the report.
The story cited anonymous sources and didn’t reveal how far Christie went in the Romney camp’s vetting process.
Myers was reportedly pressed by ABC News’ senior political correspondent Jonathan Karl on the story that ran in the Post Monday.
Speaking with reporters in Florida Monday evening, Christie denounced the story.
