ST. PETE’S’ BEACH – After a long cold war and some small flareups, state Sen. Nick Sacco, (D-32), North Bergen, launched an outright attack on state Sen. Brian Stack, (D-33), Union City today in the form of fliers personally attacking his next door neighboring state senator and mayor.
In a letter signed in his hand, Sacco lets Stack have it, threatening legal action.
“If you live in North Bergen, West New York, Weehawken or Guttenberg, you should know that more than one million tax dollars could be wasted because of Union City’s failure to pay its fair share of North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue costs on time,” wrote Sacco. “As reported in the Jersey Journal, Union City owed the NHRFR almost $6 million as of 8/2/12. This is Union City’s share of the cost of fire protection.”
Sacco said Stack’s foot-dragging was outrageous.
“Because this situation is becoming intolerable, North Bergen has delivered a final legal challenge to Mayor Stack – either pay your fair share immediately, or a lawsuit will be filed to collect the outstanding balance due plus all appropriate interest charges,” Sacco said in the distributed flier.
Stack retaliated.
“Once again, Nick Sacco has resorted to outright lies to advance his status as a political boss – he is truly shameless,” said the Union City mayor/senator. “It is appalling that Sacco, who collects more than $300,000 in his three taxpayer-funded jobs, has time to start political wars. But since Nick Sacco wants to pretend that he is so intent on educating the public, I look forward to exposing this greedy political boss for what he really is – a power hungry party boss, who needs to learn that times have changed. I look forward to sending that message. I feel more energized than ever and I think it’s time to invite Nick Sacco’s underserved constituency to join a team that is truly concerned about the community.”
A North Hudson source was aghast at Sacco’s decision to go nuclear in the lead-up to U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez’s (D-NJ) November election, where both Sacco and Stack are expected to be allied field generals for the incumbent statewide Democrat from Union City.
