Denied in his June Primary run for Congress in the 10th District, West Ward Councilman Ronald C. Rice is gearing up again for another race, this one a citywide endeavor.

Two sources close to Rice told PolitickerNJ.com the councilman is telling allies he will run for mayor in 2014.

People around sitting Mayor Cory Booker assume he’s not running for a third term.  

But there may be enough damage in the relations between Rice and Booker that whatever Booker’s intentions, Rice will run anyway.

Son of state Sen. Ronald L. Rice, (D-28), the councilman hoped his alliance with the city’s sitting mayor would translate into some kind of political capital in time for his congressional challenge.

It didn’t.

Now, Rice is getting started early, painfuly aware of his Achilles heel in the congressional race: lack of money.
