Donated food immunity bill passes committee

Colleges and universities would be immune from liability arising from donated food under a measure passed in the Assembly Higher Education committee Monday.

The bill, A1380, was sponsored by Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula and would amend a measure passed in 1982 that granted immunity to any farmer, processor, distributor, wholesaler or retailer who donates food to a food bank.
