TRENTON – Gov. Chris Christie conditionally vetoed bill A2351, which establishes an online portal for acceptance of donations to certain funds to which contributions can be made on tax returns.
Christie cited the cost and heavier workload that the portal would entail.
“I am concerned that the bill’s provisions impose significant financial and administrative burdens on Treasury. Specifically, the building, maintaining, and marketing of a secure online payment portal will cause Treasury to incur design, maintenance, administrative, and promotional costs.”
He added that “these additional costs imposed on the State for an online donation portal are difficult to justify considering the State already provides a tax-deductible way for New Jersey income tax filers to contribute to these funds.”
Bill A2351 passed by a vote of 37-0 in the Assembly on June 28.
