Hiver Ambroise, an Elizabeth-based political consultant who worked on the 2008 campaign of President Obama, pleaded guilty today to three counts of fialing to file federal tax returns.

According to the complaint, Ambroise failed to file returns in 2008, 2009 and 2010, during which he earned more than $280,000 in consulting fees through two separate companies.  Hiver is a former aide to Sen. Ray Lesniak and worked on Get out the Vote operations during Obama’s 2008 bid for office.

Earlier this year Hiver ran afoul of the state Election Law Enforcement Commission over his role as the treasurer of a failed Board of Education slate that ELEC said failed to file contribution and expense reports during their run.

He is a 1994 graduate of Elizabeth High School and a 2001 graduate of Kean University.

Each plea carries a possible sentence of one year in prison.
