The Avengers actress you always forget has a Tony, Scarlett Johansson, is to make a Broadway comeback in a revival of Tennessee Williams’s Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, playing the iconic role of Maggie the Cat. The production, to be directed by much-in-demand Rob Ashford and to open January 17, has a high-toned cast, with Benjamin Walker (of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and also Broadway’s Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) playing Brick and Ciarán Hinds as Big Daddy. But Maggie has traditionally been the play’s showcase role, with actresses as diverse as Elizabeth Taylor (in the film adaptation), Barbara Bel Geddes, Kathleen Turner, Ashley Judd, and Anika Noni Rose offering interpretations. The role’s mix of sexuality and nagging is tough to nail–though we have faith that Ms. Johansson, with her general pose of elegant boredom, is up to the task!
