Another weekend, another movie—and now that summer’s over, we’re digging into the serious stuff. We’ve stocked up on Kleenex for a screening of How to Survive a Plague, out today, a documentary (making extensive use of archival footage) about the ACT UP and TAG activist groups in the early days of the AIDS crisis. Their advocacy, as documented by newly-minted director and longtime New York journalist David France, helped alter the public perception of AIDS sufferers and harness public attention. For those fearful of public display of emotion and would rather wait for DVD, today also sees the opening of Trouble with the Curve, Clint Eastwood’s latest onscreen role—though he swore he’d retired!
