The program, which was produced by arts organization ForYourArt, will begin with projects by Barbara Kruger. Ms. Kruger has wrapped 12 city buses in L.A. with phrases like “Art is as heavy as sorrow, as light as a breeze, as bright as an idea…” and “Belief + Doubt = Sanity.” Other work will appear on billboards, bus shelters and in other public spaces in the city.

“The importance of teaching as a profession has been tragically undervalued and the result will be a diminished American culture,” Ms. Kruger said in a statement. “And the place of the arts in the classroom is essential in encouraging invention, ambition, and an understanding of the importance and pleasures of living an examined life.”
