Obama Campaign Explains ‘How Elections Are Lost’

President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign is out with yet another fundraising email this afternoon, but the latest one–themed on tonight’s vice presidential debate–is a little more pessimistic than usual. It’s entitled, “How elections are lost.”

In the email itself, Mr. Obama’s campaign manager Jim Messina said the lack of campaign dollars to respond to Congressman Paul Ryan’s debate arguments could lead to a Mitt Romney victory on Election Day.

“Whatever happens at the vice presidential debate tonight, we need to respond quickly and forcefully,” Mr. Messina wrote. “With 26 days to go, we can’t just sit and wait for someone else to set the record straight. That’s how elections are lost.”

Mr. Messina went on to hit Mr. Ryan for his proposed cuts to social welfare programs and connected it to Mr. Ryan incorrectly citing his marathon time many years ago.

“For his whole career, Paul Ryan has made an art of obscuring the facts,” Mr. Messina continued. “He’s done it on big things — like the fact that the Ryan budget that he championed in Congress, later adopted by the Romney-Ryan campaign, would actually end Medicare as we know it for our seniors and turn it into a voucher program. He’s misrepresented even the smallest things, too — like his own personal marathon time.”

The Democratic contender in the debate, Vice President Joe Biden, was briefly mentioned at the end of the email, with Mr. Messina writing, “As soon as Vice President Biden walks off that stage, we need to be ready to fire all cylinders to make sure our message — and the truth about the choice in this election — gets out there.” Obama Campaign Explains ‘How Elections Are Lost’
