If you’ve been thinking, “Hey, I really love Girls, but looking at my hands, one would have no way of knowing,” then have no fear: celebrity manicurist and designer Deborah Lipmann has designed a line of four nail polish colors inspired by the gals of Lena Dunham’s TV show.
Long gone are the days when every woman saw herself as a Carrie or Samantha – nowadays everyone’s a Hannah or a Marnie, and what better way to declare your allegiance to one of the gang than with a splash of color on your fingers and toes?
Looking for something that says, “I’m the voice of my generation” – or at least, a voice of a generation? Splash out with the Hannah in “Hapless Hunter Green.” Need the perfect shade for your noon abortion turned stairwell makeout session? Try the Jessa in “Bohemian Burgundy.” There’s also “Prim and Proper Pink,” for the aspiring Marnies out there, or a “Virtuous Vivid Violet” for those who wish to subtly declare, a la Shoshanah, “I’m still a virgin, but I’m totally working on it.”
For some inexplicable reason, the Girls polish is just one in a string of TV-inspired nail polish collaborations, including OPI’s recent Muppets and Modern Family lines, and Ms. Lipmann’s True Blood themed set, and Ms. Dunham has shown no hesitation in jumping on the self-promotional bandwagon (guess that $3.5 million book deal didn’t stretch as far as you’d think).
“Deborah Lippmann’s colors are irreverent and classy and I’ve always coveted them (and stolen them from my mother), so who better to embody the Girls’ spirit in polish form,” Ms. Dunham said in a statement. “I’ve been wearing Hannah like it’s going out of style.”
The set is available to pre-order for only $45 via Ms. Lipmann’s website, so even the perpetually unpaid interns out there should be able to afford to get pretty in the New Year. If not, there’s always mummy and daddy, right?
