Rochelle Park Township Committeeman Joe Scarpa wants to serve in the Assembly in the 38th District.
“I’m not going to beat around the bush, I’m running,” Scarpa, a Republican, told PolitickerNJ.com.
Assemblywoman Connie Wagner (D-38) and Assemblyman Tim Eustace (D-38) currently represent the district.
Scarpa has been on the Rochelle Park Township Committee for 22 years. He ran unsuccessfully for the Assembly in 1997.
He served as Emerson Borough Administrator in March 2000, and also serves as the Borough’s Certified Recycling Coordinator.
According to the Emerson website, Scarpa worked on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., as a state senator’s chief legislative aide, and as a volunteer Bergen County Housing commissioner.
He graduated summa cum laude from Seton Hall University in 1988. While there, he was an inductee to Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society, was elected President of the Student Government Association, was the volunteer coordinator for the largest private fundraiser for the 1988 U.S. Olympic Team, and was the sole recipient of the University’s Distinguished Service Medal.
He went on to obtain his Masters Degree in Administrative Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1999, and earned his Leadership Development Certificate from Rutgers University in 2005.
