Labor Committee releases bill discarding 10 percent UI tax surcharge

TRENTON – The Senate Labor Committee unanimously released bill S2404, which would reduce the unemployment insurance (UI) tax rates by not imposing the 10 percent surcharge that was scheduled to go into effect this January.

The New Jersey Business and Industry Association (NJBIA) supports the measure.

New Jersey Staffing Alliance, the state Chamber of Commerce, the South Jersey Chamber of Commerce and National Federation of Independent Businesses also support the bill.

The bill is sponsored by Sen. Fred Madden (D-4) of Tavestock and Sen. Steve Oroho (R-28) of Sparta.
