State Sen. Kip Bateman and Assembly Representatives Donna Simon and Jack Ciattarelli today announced they will seek re-election in the 16th Legislative District.
The 16th covers parts of Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex and Somerset Counties.
Bateman has served in the Senate since 2008, when he won the seat vacated by the retiring Walter Kavanugh. Before that he served 14 years in the state Assembly. Ciattarelli has served since 2011 after winning his bid for the open seat vacated by Denis Coyle, who did not seek re-election after redistricting. Simon has served in the Assembly since last year, winning the seat vacated when Assemblyman Peter Biondi died.
No challengers have yet emerged, however Democrat Marie Corfield is rumored to be interested in running again. Corfield, a teacher, came close to defeating Simon last year, losing by about 1,000 votes.
