State Sen. Barbara Buono on Saturday picked up the endorsement of Garden State Equality, the state’s largest lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender advocacy group.
The endorsement came on the one year anniversary of Gov. Chris Christie’s veto of a measure that would have legalized same sex marriage.
“Senator Buono has long been a champion of equality and her record shows that she understands what it is like to face bias, what it is like to overcome discrimination. She understands that separate is never equal and she will fight to make our state a better place for all New Jerseyans,” said Troy Stevenson, Executive Director of Garden State Equality.
Since the veto by Gov. Chris Christie, gay rights advocates have vowed to overturn it, but they do not have enough votes in the state Legislature to override.
