American Crossroads, the Karl Rove-backed “super PAC” that invested millions of dollars in last year’s elections, has a new target–actress Ashley Judd.
Ms. Judd is reportedly considering a run against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in Kentucky, but American Crossroads might prefer if the actress never moved forward with her campaign. Accordingly, the group released a YouTube ad unloading a barrage of hits against Ms. Judd and arguing that she’s “an Obama-following, radical, Hollywood liberal” who’s out of step with Kentucky’s conservative politics.
“I am committed to President Obama and Vice President Biden,” Ms. Judd enthusiastically says at the video’s start, for example. “I think he’s a brilliant man. He’s now able to flower more as the president I knew he could be.”
Overall, the spot functions as a sarcastic, mock campaign ad for Ms. Judd’s hypothetical campaign while going through the clips Mr. McConnell could use in his own ads against her if need be. In it, she is quoted referring to “hillbillies who golf,” calls herself a “radical,” and–to the narrator’s great amusement–labels Tennessee, where Ms. Judd has maintained a residence for many years, as “home.”
“Her own grandmother says she’s a Hollywood liberal, but isn’t that what we need?” the narrator adds. “Ashley Judd: an Obama-following, radical Hollywood liberal who’s right at home here in Tennessee–I mean Kentucky.”
